DJ’s typically play their version of hip hop—Nelly’s “Hot In Herre” amongst other outdated gems, but that’s still a good time, right?
This beautiful club is in first place. No really, it’s decked out all in gold and it’s the most glorious place you could clap your booty cheeks together in! Located beneath the Meatpacking District’s Monarch restaurant, The Gilded Lily is a badly kept secret, mostly because people know it’s down there. If you’re looking for a wild club night mixed with Liberace’s wet dream, you’ve found your birthday party venue.
Everything you’ve ever heard about Meatpacking District clubs ring true here. The bounders take their jobs too seriously and there’s a chance that if you and your crew don’t look like the cast of “Gossip Girl,” you’ll have a hard time getting in. But once inside, you’re met with decadence and hips shaking. Worth it! Plus, you’re not a New Yorker if you haven’t been refused from entering a club.
Who eats at the club? Don’t come hungry because they don’t have a menu. But if you do, The Monarch Room is upstairs and as long as they’re open, you can get your belly full. No one comes here to eat. No one.
As New York City’s goldest night club, this is the place to be if you’re obsessed with first place prize colors. (The other color is blue, right?) The chandelier above the dance floor obviously changes colors as the beat drops and it’s more fun to watch than the lack of rhythm on the dance floor. Eat before you come (at The Monarch Room upstairs) and dance off any calories you shouldn’t have had, but did because it’s your birthday. While the DJ likely isn’t playing the latest hits, you will get your life from the carefully chosen chart toppers of 15 years ago. There’s also BINGO on Sundays, so there’s that.
